Snake Bit Print E-mail
Coach Steve Barnes shared an interesting illustration from the book “Every Man’s Battle.”  The story was told of a hiker who was confronted by a snake who asked for a ride up the hill in the hiker’s backpack.  The hiker said “No.  You are a snake.  If I give you a ride in my backpack, you will bite me.”  The snake promised not to bite the hiker and begged for a ride up the mountain.  He said, “It will take me days to climb this mountain without your help.  Please give me a ride.  I promise not to bite you.”  After going back and forth for a while, the reluctant hiker finally agreed to carry the snake up the mountain.  He carefully picked up the snake and made the hike.  At the top, the hiker carefully pulled the snake out of the backpack and just before setting it down, the snake bit him.  “You promised not be bite me” the hiker said.  “Now I am going to die up here on this mountain.  Why did you do that?”  The snake simply replied, “You knew what I was before you ever picked me up.”   The lesson in the story is we know the danger of drugs, alcohol and premarital sex.  We know what can happen if we give into them.  The best thing to do is never to pick them up.

Sharing Your Faith Print E-mail

You might think it is strange, but I would like you to listen to a youtube clip from an atheist. He is talking about a man who proselytized (shared with him about his faith in Christ) and gave him a Bible. I think it can tell us a lot about how we relate to others as Christians.

Prayer in school Print E-mail
Recently Hope High School in Florida was told that they could not pray at graduation.  At the graduation ceremony, many students joined hands and recited the Lord's prayer.  You can read about it at http://www.pnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090531/NEWS01/905310319&s=d&page.  The point is that the ACLU and the court system cannot take prayer out of school.  They can take scheduled and all inclusive prayer from school but that cannot keep Christians from praying.  As long as there are Christians in school, there will be prayer in school.  It woud be similar to a court rulling that you could not have hope in school or peace in school.  If Christ lives in you the Bible tells you to pray continually.  You don't have to stand on the lunchroom table or get on the intercom, but you can pray and be a witness at your school.
